Lesson plans written by the Centre's Deputy Director, Dr Jan Ewing, working in collaboration with Prof Anne Barlow (University of Exeter), and Resolution members Graeme Fraser (BBS Law) and Yuliya Osudina (Child and Child) won the 'Family Law Community Interaction Award' at the prestigious Family Law Awards 2023 recently.
The PSHE Association-approved lesson plans, 'Modern Families', aim to dispel common myths around the rights of cohabitants. With the British Social Attitudes Survey (2018) revealing that around 46% of people hold the erroneous belief that cohabitants living together have the same rights as married couples, and in the face of the government's opposition to reform of rights for cohabitants, the interactive lesson plans help to inform young people of the legal consequences of different family forms.
