Past events

Members of our Centre have been responsible for the organisation of a large number of earlier events and associated research projects including:

• CFL Lecture: 'The Lundy Model of Child Participation: space, voice, audience and influence for young people in decision making when parents separate': On 7 March 2024 Cambridge Family Law hosted Professor Laura Lundy (Queen’s University Belfast), Professor Anne Barlow (University of Exeter) & Dr Jan Ewing (University of Cambridge), introduced by Stephen Gilmore.
• The law and reform of surrogacy: Cambridge Family Law hosted a major conference with the American Bar Association and the International Academy Lawyers entitled ‘International Surrogacy Forum’ in June 2019, at which the book Eastern and Western Perspectives on Surrogacy was launched. 
• UNCRC implementation project meeting in July 2019, hosted by Fenton-Glynn and Sloan. Like its predecessors (organised by others), this interdisciplinary colloquium was an invitation-only event bringing together international experts to analyse the implementation of a specific article of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The focus of this meeting was article 5, which protects the responsibilities, rights and duties of parents or others to provide, in a manner consistent with the evolving capacities of the child, appropriate direction and guidance in the exercise by the child of his/her rights. As well as the Centre, the Cambridge Socio-Legal Group, the University of Cambridge’s Strategic Research Initiative on Public Policy and Robinson College supported the event. Papers from the colloquium will be published in a special journal issue of the International Journal of Children’s Rights.
• Conference on the Law and Practice of Surrogacy, co-organised by Scherpe and Fenton-Glynn with the Academy of European Law, June 2018
• Spaces of Care – socio-legal workshop and book project co-hosted by Sloan with Loraine Gelsthorpe and Perveez Mody under the aegis of the Cambridge Socio-Legal Group, April 2018, resulting in the publication of the book Spaces of Care.
• Divorce and financial remedy law roundtable events to promote evidence-based policy-making, for parliamentarians, policy-makers and practitioners, convened by Miles with Liz Trinder and Gillian Douglas in the House of Lords, summer 2018, with contributions by Miles and Scherpe
• Landmark Cases in Succession Law – workshop hosted by Sloan in Sept 2018, with book forthcoming in 2019
• Anglo-Australian financial remedies law – workshop and special issue of Australian Journal of Family Law, convened and edited by Miles with Belinda Fehlberg, Sept 2017
