Prof. Dr. Tobias Helms was born in 1968. He studied law in Freiburg/Germany and Geneva/Switzerland. From 1995 – 2005 he worked as research assistant at the Institute for Foreign and International Private Law in Freiburg. After his habilitation he was appointed as professor at the Philipps-University in Marburg in 2006, and has been the head of the department for Family and Succession law of the Marburg Institute for Comparative Law (https://www.uni-marburg.de/fb01/lehrstuehle/zivilrecht/helms) since then.

Tobias is associate editor of the German family law journal “Zeitschrift für das gesamte Familienrecht” (FamRZ) and managing editor of the German family law journal „Das Standesamt“(StAZ). He also is a member of the German Council for International Private Law (Deutscher Rat für Internationales Privatrecht). His main fields of interest are Family and Succession Law as well as International Private Law.
